Seeing eye dogs usually help blind people get around, but at one Florida Humane Society, there’s one little dog who’s actually helping out a four-legged friend.

Max and Sarah are best friends. When you see one, the other is bound to be close by. Max is a 3-year-old Papillon mix, Sarah a 3-year-old Chihuahua. They came to the Humane Society of Pinellas together.

Sarah is visually impaired and Max acts as her seeing-eye dog. He has a big personality, compared to her shy one. ”So together they always check in on each other, she follows Max around. They’re just two peas in a pod,” says The Humane Society’s Twila Cole.

The Humane Society is looking for someone to adopt the pair.

I’m sick and a little emotional and stories like this do not help.

Cutest Call To Action Ever of the Day: On October 5, the container ship MV Rena ran aground on Astrolabe Reef, resulting in an oil spill that is already being regarded as the worst environmental disaster in New Zealand’s history.
Clean up efforts are underway, but the danger to local wildlife remains high. A raft of Little Blue Penguins has already been negatively impacted by the spill.
The Kiwi yarn store Skeinz has put out a call for penguin sweaters — an adorable-sounding but very necessary accessory that helps keep the birds from preening their feathers and ingesting the oil.
Skeinz has posted knitting instructions for anyone willing to lend a hand.

I can’t knit but I know a lot of my followers are wonderfully crafty people.
Do it for the penguins! They need adorable sweaters!

Sane Cat Lady of the Day: Lynea Lattanzio, owner and operator of The Cat House on the Kings, has been in the business of rescuing cats for nearly two decades — and business is good.

The 12-acre no-cage, no-kill rescue sanctuary and adoption center is home to over 700 cats, with more being added daily. “I’m not crazy,” says Lattanzio, a surgical veterinary techinician by trade. “What I do is crazy.”

The Lady with 700 Cats airs on NatGeo WILD next Saturday, July 30th @ 10PM EDT.

700 may be a little much but this is basically my dream.
